Triz: An Elegant and Versatile Lamp for Every Space

The intention behind Triz was to create a lamp 'for all places', not only in terms of location but also in relation to its function and placement. Designed by Renata Gutierrez and James Rowland, Triz is a unique and adaptable lighting fixture that can be wall-mounted, suspended from the ceiling, or placed on a flat surface.

Elegant, minimal, and versatile are the three defining characteristics of Triz. Its singular design allows it to be wall-mounted in six different orientations, adding a touch of sophistication to any space. The mechanism for wall hanging, visible when suspended from the ceiling, has been thoughtfully designed as an aesthetic feature, resembling a dragonfly.

Handmade from solid hard woods, such as rose cedar with details in caxeta, Triz showcases the beauty of traditional woodworking methods. The joints are reinforced with dovetail splines, ensuring durability and longevity. Special care has been taken to account for wood movement due to temperature and humidity fluctuations, guaranteeing the lamp's stability.

With dimensions of 170mm in width, 134mm in depth, and 145mm in height, Triz is a compact yet impactful lighting solution that fits seamlessly into any space. Its sleek design and warm illumination create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Triz is simple and easy to use. A single screw is all that is required to mount it on the wall, and it can also be suspended directly from the cord, which can be wired straight into the mains electricity supply. This user-friendly design ensures a hassle-free installation process.

The Triz lamp was conceived and realized in Paraty, Brazil in 2017. The designers, Renata Gutierrez and James Rowland, aimed to create a simple object with no unnecessary embellishments. Their research focused on basic geometric shapes and how they interact with different areas of use, whether it be on a wall, horizontal surface, or free-hanging.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was developing an aesthetically pleasing and functional wall mounting method. The dragonfly-shaped keyhole slot was ultimately chosen, allowing for mounting in six different positions with just a single screw. This innovative solution adds an extra touch of visual interest to the lamp.

Triz has been recognized for its outstanding design and ingenuity. In 2018, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.
